We Can Lead Applauds President Obama's Commitment to Senate Action on Comprehensive Energy & Climate Legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C. - WASHINGTON, D.C. - We Can Lead, a project of Ceres and the Clean Economy Network, issued the following statement regarding President Obama's address to the nation:
"As America's business leaders, we agree with President Barack Obama that Americans are frustrated with inaction on a stalled Senate energy and climate bill and it is not acceptable following the Gulf oil disaster," said Jeff Anderson, the executive director of the Clean Economy Network and co-director for the We Can Lead campaign.
"We hope the Senate will act and pass comprehensive climate and energy legislation. With two more reports out today showing that the U.S. would create 250,000 to 540,000 new clean energy jobs a year for the next 20 years, we need this legislation to give our economy a much needed shot in the arm.
"Diversifying our energy sources through the passage of comprehensive energy reform will help American businesses invest in the transition to a new energy economy, create millions of new American jobs over the next decade and lessen our over-reliance on oil.
"We applaud the President's commitment to passing legislation this year that will give American businesses incentives to invest in new energy technology that will be powered by clean, renewable and innovative energy sources while enhancing the ability of American companies to compete in the global race to lead the new energy economy.
"We are calling on the Senate to work together to advance a comprehensive, bipartisan energy and climate bill that puts a price on carbon, unleashes innovation, creates millions of American jobs and puts America back in control of our energy future. It's time to finish what we started."
